Fear of the unknown can often keep us from moving forward.
We want to make this process as easy as possible, so here’s what to expect.
First and foremost, this is a judgement-free zone. Always.
There’s nothing you can say that will shock or surprise us, or make us think less of you as a person or couple. Whatever your views on religion or spirituality. Whatever your gender identity or sexual orientation. Whatever your relationship status and type. Whatever your political beliefs. Everyone is welcome at Guiding Point.
We’re not here to force any ideas on you, in any way. Our job is to help you identify what’s holding you back from being the happiest, most fulfilled version of yourself, and to walk with you as you make any changes you choose in order to be the person you want to be.
There are two ways we can get started:
We can schedule a free, 15-minute phone consultation where we get to know each other a bit, answer any questions you may have, and determine if we’re the right fit for each other.
Or, we can jump right into your first 50-55 minute session. Sessions can be in-person or by telehealth.
After the consult/before the first session:
We will send you a link to our secure client portal to electronically fill out paperwork. You’ll also be set up for text and/or email appointment reminders, upload your insurance info, (if you’re using it), and input whatever card you want to use for payment.
The first session:
Some people are nervous and aren’t quite ready to go into a lot of details about things yet. Others say they sit down on the couch and feel like they “word vomit” for an hour about all the things they’ve been holding in. There is no right or wrong way for us to start! Attending that first session and being willing to try is so very brave of you.
We will discuss your goals for therapy, when and how your current concerns began, and what your day-to-day life looks like. We’ll also talk about your family and support system, and any relevant medical and mental health history for you or immediate family members.
We will determine together how frequently you want to attend sessions based on your needs and goals then get you scheduled for next time. And that’s it!
